The history
Albergo Villa Marta, once a manor house, is a typical example of a late 18th-century Lucca Villa and takes its name from its last owner, Mrs. Marta, who lived here. The Villa is located in a slightly elevated and sunny position compared to the surrounding countryside and includes a second, more recent building, the annex (once the servants’ quarters), a large 19th-century garden where Mediterranean and exotic species grow side by side, a neoclassical chapel and a modern swimming pool flanked by a cosy green lounge.
The two converging staircases and the “Scatena” family crest, lead to the main floor, now used as a Reception hall area. Today, Villa Marta is elegantly and comfortably furnished and still reflects the past of the family who built it. The lead-polished “Tessieri” flooring, which covers the entire hotel lobby, the large French windows overlooking the well-kept garden and the frescoes in one of the deluxe rooms reveal the original reason for which the Villa was built: the hunting.
The ground floor, originally used for kitchens and storage rooms, now houses the dining rooms of the Botton d’Oro Restaurant.
This level is dominated by traditional Tuscan materials: terracotta, “pietra serena” stone and rafters with tiles.
The splendid park with magnolias, pines, camellias and palms alternating with boxwoods and long green expanses was and is divided into several areas. The area in front of the main entrance, bordered by whitewashed brick columns topped with plant pots, was once used for everyday life, while the other areas outside it were reserved for the exclusive use of men.
In front of the Villa’s main door is the neoclassical chapel, still consecrated today, with frescoed ceilings illuminated by a light blue starry sky.
Villa Marta today
Today, Villa Marta is a four-star hotel with 18 rooms, divided into five types: classic, classic with a view, deluxe, deluxe triple and the chapel suite. All rooms are unique, with carefully selected furniture and fabrics.
The classic rooms, comfortable and bright, are located on the ground floor of the annexe and offer plenty of privacy as they have direct access to the garden.
The classic rooms with a view are located on the upper floors, each offering a unique view of the surrounding landscape: to the south-west are the “Monti Pisani”, to the east are the terraced hills with olive trees and the villa’s chapel and, to the north-west, is the countryside with its typical Lucca courtyards.
The Deluxe rooms, with their unique L-shape, are the most suitable for a 180° view of the surrounding countryside and are equipped with a large bathroom, also with attention to details.
The hotel offers free WiFi access in all indoor and outdoor common areas, such as the swimming pool and garden, as well as in the green lounge, the bar and the Botton d’Oro Restaurant, located on the ground floor of the Villa.
The Deluxe Triple Rooms, the largest rooms on the ground floor, are ideal for families with young children.

Albergo Villa Marta is about 4 km from the city walls of Lucca, which can also be reached by bicycle. The hotel offers guests a bicycle rental service for a fee. The reception staff is available for any information and assistance regarding the various routes to take or to set up the bicycle to suit your riding needs.

WiFi service is available for all guests at Villa Marta 24 hours a day, in the rooms and in the common areas, and is completely free of charge.
